Coronavirus: Symptom-free testing centre to open in Shifnal
A new symptom-free COVID-19 testing centre will open in Shifnal next Monday (19 April 2021).
The new testing centre will offer rapid Lateral Flow Tests for people who do not have COVID-19 symptoms. The site will also act as a collection point for people who are looking to collect home testing kits.
Results are usually available within 30 minutes.
The testing centre is located at:
Old Police Station, Tudor Way, Shifnal TF11 8DJ
The testing site will be open from 1pm initially on Monday 19 April 2021, and then 8am-5pm Mondays-Fridays. No prior booking is required.
Everyone across Shropshire is now able to pick up free Lateral Flow Tests home testing kits from sites across the county.
With around one in three people with COVID-19 having no symptoms, twice-weekly rapid testing is a important tool in the fight against the virus.
We are also encouraging anyone who collects a home testing kit to complete a test on site to gain an understanding of what you need to do.
With venues across Shropshire, including libraries and leisure centres, now acting as collection points, it has never been easier to get tested.
A full list of collection points can be found here
These testing centres are for people who do not have COVID-19 symptoms. If you think you have symptoms, including a new, continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of sense of taste or smell visit www.gov.uk/coronavirus or call 119 to book a traditional PCR test at one of the county’s symptomatic test centres.
Rachel Robinson, Shropshire Council’s director of public health, said:
“Testing of symptom-free people is really vital at the minute, as we continue our route out of the third Lockdown.
“Even if you have no symptoms, you could still be spreading the virus – and a mild illness for you could be a life-threatening disease for someone else.
“if you test positive, it’s really important that you self-isolate for 10 days, and that your close contacts self-isolate too. That’s the only way we’ll be able to break the chain of transmission.”
People with symptoms of COVID-19 should NOT go to any of the rapid testing centres. Instead, they should stay at home and book a PCR test online or by calling 119.
